The history of Tacet began during their time at the Rittersberg-Gymnasium in Kaiserslautern. The musicians met in the school big band. After graduation, some members went their separate ways, but a hard core remained true to music – and developed a brass band with its own profile in 2019. The core members are Julian Lasai and Gabriel Haselbach on trumpets, Simon Schmitt on tenor saxophone and Luis Schramm on alto saxophone. "After the pandemic, the group came together again in 2023 and 2024 with partly new musicians," he explains. The key moment was a friend's wedding, where part of the former band members "spontaneously took up the instruments and created a small musical highlight," as it says in the band biography. The revived band is now strengthened by Julius Göbel on trombone, Carolin Aurich on baritone saxophone, Daniel Aurich on bass and Janis Roth on drums. Together, the instrumentalists pursue a clear idea: to bring people together through music. What began as a vision has long since become a living project that goes far beyond classical brass music. Musically, Tacet is inspired by American subway bands like Lucky Chops from New York, who have achieved worldwide success with their energetic mix of brass, pop and funk. "We now play from Ben E. King's 'Stand by Me' to a Linkin' Park and Lady Gaga medley, almost everything that we like and that suits us," says Schramm. "There's definitely something for everyone." There are no genre boundaries. There is no competition, in terms of sound and setlist. Because brass bands are still relatively rare in the Kaiserslautern area. "We also don't have the ambition to look at what other comparable bands have already played, and not to play it," says Schramm. "If we like a song, we take it into the setlist and play it in our own way, regardless of whether it has already been played by other bands up and down." Which titles will ultimately make it into the concert program will be decided together. At the Long Night of Culture, Tacet will perform for the second time. For about 45 minutes, the band will transform the historic walls of Alcatraz into a brass orchestra stage. "We are very much looking forward to the performance. The through traffic does not bother us. It's nice to see new faces in the audience again. Who is there, is there, and who is not there, has missed something," the saxophonist laughs. Those who want to experience how modern brass music meets unique atmosphere should not miss Tacet's performance at the Long Night of Culture.
