The Pfalz Warriors suffered a 0:77 defeat at home against Alzey/Kaiserslautern. The opponent was too strong and the Warriors couldn't rely on their starting quarterback. Already the first possession of the SG led quickly and easily to a touchdown. On Pirmasenser side, frustration quickly set in. "We weren't so presumptuous to believe that we would win the game," said Dietmar Gross, the sports director and defensive coordinator of the Warriors, afterwards. "But that it would be so harsh, we hadn't expected." So, at the half-time score of 0:49, a more detailed address by Gross and offensive coordinator Patrick Niedenzu was necessary, which led to an improvement in performance after the break. The Warriors' offense had to do without the injured starting quarterback Markus Wenning and brought nothing of value to the scoreboard throughout the game. The Warriors play without Americans, except for one exception, and rely fully on German players. "That was our plan. We want to build our program here seriously and sensibly," emphasized Gross. Problematic is the training participation of the Pfalz Warriors, reported the sports director: "We could never train properly because there were always too few people there, sometimes in the offense, sometimes in the defense. Reasonable training is not possible." The next game of the Warriors was planned for June 14 in Trier, but has since been moved to the end of August. Therefore, in three weeks, the SG Alzey/Kaiserslautern will already be on the schedule of the Warriors, this time in Kaiserslautern. The goal of the Pirmasenser is clear: such a debacle like the one on Sunday must not happen again.
