Kaiserslautern Pikes ended their season with a heavy 7:63 loss to Rüsselsheim Crusaders. The team, led by coach Dennis Folz, was from the start without any chances. "Today somehow nothing worked, we had the worm inside", Folz said and explained: "It was a bad team performance, defensively we did not play well, we had no access. The opposing quarterback had no pressure, could wait for the pass routes to open up and pass unpressured to his receivers. We were different: Our quarterback had immediate pressure, we had no time to develop our plays. And sometimes luck was missing in the passes." In the third quarter, the Pikes at least scored a touchdown to avoid a zero-point loss, Paris Ferguson caught a pass from Justin Jordan in the end zone. In the last quarter, the guests then pushed the result up again, final score 7:63. "I won't blame my team. We have many amateur players who had to jump into positions they have never played before. That's noticeable too. Against the import players of the Crusaders, they have no chance. Moreover, we have been struggling with injuries throughout the season. Many of the boys had to play both offense and defense today, stood the whole field – and that in the heat", emphasized Folz, who was actually also injured – he missed three season games -, but played on Saturday. Because: "I didn't want to leave the boys in the lurch, especially since we were so understaffed. I gave it my all today." Even head coach Michael Edwards was not surprised by the result: "It's gone as expected due to our lack of training. We had many injuries, as well as work and other private responsibilities, so I never had a full team in training. I have great guys, but they have little time to train at the moment, which is a recurring theme throughout the season. It's hard to teach someone something if they don't understand what we coaches want because they're not trained. Due to the lack of training, we can't be as good as we should be. Don't misunderstand me: I love my guys, they're warriors. But even warriors need the right strategy to win a game. As soon as we achieve that, we'll be much better."
