The Lautrer Solar Power Competition is a competition where students from Kaiserslautern show off their engineering skills. The students develop solar cars that run exclusively on solar energy. The competition day saw all teams meet at the University of Kaiserslautern and show off what they had. First, the solar cars had to cover a 10-meter-long track. Sometimes straight, sometimes with a chicane that required real tinkering in advance. At the Lautrer Solar Power Competition, nine schools sent teams to the starting line. And exactly at these challenging points, it showed which idea really worked. Who has the best technology? Who uses solar energy most efficiently? And which car remains reliable in motion at all? In the end, it's not just about speed. In three categories, the best vehicles are awarded: "Free Flow" for the fastest car on the straight track, "Shadow Race" for the best result with chicane, and "Innovation and Creativity" for special technical ideas and creative design. The prize money – donated by the Association of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (VDE) – goes to the schools and is intended to make new projects possible. A competition that shows: technology can be really fun, especially when it's about solar energy.
