1. FC Kaiserslautern is proud of its history and tradition. Recently, the gold medal of FCK World Champion Werner Liebrich was auctioned for 41,000 euros. Liebrich was one of five players of 1. FC Kaiserslautern who played in the 1954 World Cup final in Switzerland. Other players were Fritz and Ottmar Walter, Horst Eckel, and Werner Kohlmeyer. The auction took place in Kassel and was conducted by auctioneer Wolfgang Fuhr. The estimated price for the medal was set at 25,000 euros, but the bidders were willing to pay more. So, a bidding war ensued between a German and an international bidder. But ultimately, the medal was sold for 41,000 euros. The new owner of the medal is unknown, as buyers and sellers remain anonymous at auctions. After Liebrich's death in March 1995, numerous objects from his estate went to 1. Auctioneer Fuhr said this was a real bargain. The auction of Liebrich's gold medal is an important part of 1. FC Kaiserslautern's history. The club is proud of its tradition and its players who fought for the club. So, the history of 1. FC Kaiserslautern will live on.
